Labor of Love

He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.
1 Chronicles 17:12

Today I witnessed men of God, build walls for a place that will someday worship our Lord. Our church supports a local church camp, and they were in a need of a new building. I understand we found people to donate funds, lumber, supplies and most importantly, their time in order to bring this place together.

It was very neat to be a part of, however I mostly sat on my fanny (did cook some food for them to eat) and watched in awe and took a bunch of pictures while the men worked. My son really wanted to help, but it was such an orchestrated event, with many powerful air tools, they didn't want little kids helping. We did go, PaPa was able to help, and once it was over my son was able to help clean up. He was able to witness many men working hard for a great cause. And he got to jump on a trampoline which was another highlight.

The walls were built in sets of three at a time until every wall was built. I wish I knew more about the project to see how many were done over the last two days, but if I had to guess, I would say there were at least 40-50 walls. They were stacked very high in a shed once the last one was built. Very cool.

It was a fun way to spend a Saturday. I'm sure there will be many sore men at church tomorrow. But even though, I'm sure they would agree, the sacrifice they all made is well worth the sacrifice Jesus made for each of them. I'm sure Jesus was smiling today.
Oh wishing he could help.
Even the Sr. High boys came to help. And they even knew how to work power tools!
Ummm, something isn't right here.
Measure twice, cut once.
Jumping on the trampoline, in a very cold and windy day. But they don't care, can't you tell?
A father and son horsing around.
Video of the last wall being stacked.
The last stack of walls being taken away.
And Bo...well he got all of the leftovers and was one happy bow-wow.

Wishing for Spring

I was looking at some old pictures from last year when I came across these from a camping trip. Seeing the green trees and green grass made we really wish it was Spring. We have had a few days here and there of warm weather and it put me in the mood for flowers, gardening, mowing my grass, dinner's on our patio, using my new grill and chasing lightening bugs. I hate to wish the days away, but I sure do wish God's pretty shades of Green would come soon.

God is probably still working his magic in the ground. Things are starting to wake up, grow a little bit and before we know it, peak their heads out for the world to see.

So I guess for now, I'll gaze at the green pictures and wait for Spring to arrive.

But I do wish it would hurry up!

Where or where has my ribbon spools gone?

Lately I have noticed items from my scrapbook room have "appeared" in other rooms of my home. Even though I had a pretty good idea who (or should I say which one) was doing it, I finally caught HIM in the act. Tiger, was the thief.

It appears as though he likes to play with little spools of ribbon I have. The ribbon is wrapped around a hard plastic spool and it fits perfect in his mouth, while providing string to play with. I have many of them, and he has found all of them.

Last night while trying to go to sleep, he decided to bring them to me. I felt him jump in bed, but I was hoping if I ignored him, he would lay down and go to sleep, but I was wrong. Instead he whacked the thing off my bed and proceeded to fly across the room to grab it. He played this game of charades for a bit and then finally gave up when he realized I wasn't in the mood to play. So this morning I find all of my spools of ribbon scattered around the house.

These pictures were taken recently when I caught him in the act. I guess the thrill of the kill was too overbearing that he had to snag the stuff while I was in the same room with him. I didn't say he was the smartest kitty on the block.

This weekend we had a little family party to watch all of the High School Musical movies. My son has been asking to have this party for weeks, but we waited until #3 came out on DVD. We invited my sister's family over and Nana and PaPa. After movie #2, we took a break to eat supper and the kids played while the adults talked. It was a nice time to all be together.

We couldn't talk NaNa and PaPa into watching movie #3, so the rest of us cuddled up in my small family room to watch it instead. It was a fun way to spend a Saturday evening. Boy it sure brought back memories of me watching Grease when I was a young teen.

The weekend has come and gone. I'm sure not ready to go back to work tomorrow. I can't believe February is almost over. But that means Spring is right around the corner. That....I am excited about.

The two men of the house being crazy. Nothing is sweeter than a big furry cat to snuggle with.

Valentine's Day Shopping for ME!

Even though yesterday was a day for sweethearts, it didn't phase me a bit to be single. I may be single, but I'm not alone, and that is a wonderful feeling. Not only do I have my beautiful son, superb family, but surrounded by loving friends. Yesterday I was blessed to spend the day with one of my favorite girlfriends. She too is single, so it was a perfect day for the two of us to be together. And let me tell you, we had a blast. As she put it, we did our share to help the struggling economy. Gotta love RETAIL THERAPY!

We started our day at 9:00am and headed to a city about 1 1/2 hours away from here. You may say "why so far?". Well, they have some of the best scrapbook stores. The bigger city closest to us only have Michael's and Hobby Lobby. And all though the both of us love those stores, this other city has some very unique family owned stores with sooooooo many goodies. We just pray they can stay in business since others we like to visit have crumbled with this crummy economy.

We hit our first store and took our sweet time shopping, gasping at the things we would see. Many times throughout the day I would find something I loved, put it in my hands and minutes later when I circled back around the store to meet my girlfriend I would show her my treasure, to find out she picked up the exact same thing. We both have great taste. :)

After the scrapbook store we found a bead store that was very neat. We did good, didn't purchase a thing. I can't image starting another hobby, but it did look like fun. From there we hit scrapbook store #2, my favorite. I'm not really sure how long we were there, but I know it was well over an hour. These things take time you know! If you don't browse slowly, you might miss something awesome.

This is the store I found some stamps I have only seen on-line. They are Amuse Rubber Stamps and I just love them. I have pondered over them for months, wishing I owned some. We'll, I finally found a store that stocked them and it was very hard to not sell off my car to buy every one of them. I came away with only three, and all three were on sale so I feel pretty good about myself.

From there we grabbed lunch, found a neat fabric store and had to stop in to buy something for my sissy. My girlfriend and I decided that fabric is so much like paper, just on a much smaller (and cheaper) scale. Well, cheaper if you only buy one piece, which we never do. We picked out some fat quarters for my sissy, that she did love.

Spring Imaginisce rubber stamps that are just so cute, and only $1.00 each!

Now, we were done with this city so we decided to head 2 hours back South to hit another town. Call us crazy, but hey you've got to go where the scrapbook stores on. This one was close to home, so we did at least head in the correct direction. Once we got to store #3 we did find some things we STILL needed and closed the place down at 6:00pm. Whew, a long day of shopping!
I loved these spring stickers, chicks are my favorite. I guess I'm a chick magnet!! Hee-Hee.

It was off to dinner back home at a local Mexican Restaurant and we were both tired and brain dead. We still had things to talk about, even though we were about too tired to eat. I took my friend home with all of her goodies and I came home to crash. It was such a fun day of fellowship and shopping on this holiday weekend.

My son is home from his Dad's and we are having homemade pizza and watching a movie. Time to spend time with my other Valentine date. He is the best "little man" a Mom could want. Hope you had a great Valentine's Day weekend with whomever you shared it with.

Tulips from my favorite flower. A perfect Valentine's Day present.

Roses from my Mom and Dad. Another perfect present.

My Uncle

My family lost a loved one today, my Uncle. He was a very strong man, as my sister described him, a cowboy. He loved living on his farm with his horses. But what he loved more, was my Aunt. They were a true reflection of what a husband and wife should be; devoted, loving, frisky and best friends. My uncle was diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago and I remember thinking to myself, if anyone can beat cancer, it's my tough Uncle. Well, early this morning he lost the battle.

Even though he was a very rough and tough kind of guy, he had a gentle heart. He would wrestle with my sister and I whenever we went to spend the night. I loved going into their basement to see all of his tools, horse bridles and every now and then, baby chickens in the incubator. Their farm had cows, horses, goats, ducks, chickens, cats, dogs and I'm sure other animals I don't remember. I loved going to "the farm" to visit.

A little over a year ago my Aunt and Uncle lived out their retirement dream and moved to Texas. What better place for a cowboy to be. He didn't get to enjoy his new home very much because he was pretty sick. I just pray for my Aunt and ask for strength to help her deal with the loss of her best friend and love of her life. I know it will be so hard to continue without him. I hope to see her soon, I miss them both.

Here are some pictures of my parents, and my Aunt and Uncle. My Uncle is in the cowboy, flannel shirt. Aren't they a cute couple?

These next two pictures may look a little familiar if you remember the earlier post about my grandma's birthday party. These pictures are taken at another party for Grandma where we are all in the famous beauty parlor. Well, remember what I said about people playing around on the equipment instead of watching Grandma open her presents??????

Look who is the big kid now. I love you Uncle, and I'll miss you dearly.

Odd...Off...Depressing....Need a new week

It's been a very odd, off and depressing kind of week so far. First, a very dear family, close to my heart, lost their Dad/Father-in-Law/Grandpa. I have met "Grandpa" a few times while visiting my friend's home, but I didn't know him very well, only his family. The daughter's of this family babysit my son during the summer and many other times. Grandpa was a Christan man and all though he left his family behind, I can guarantee he is having more fun than us dancing with Jesus. He passed away Saturday evening after suffering from a massive stroke. Today, I attended his visitation.

Also Saturday evening/Sunday morning, there was another death. However I only know this family from blog land, never met them, but feel like I know everything about them. They have an 11 month old baby that was very recently diagnosed with cancer and after a short battle, lost the fight. You can read about baby Cora here. Even though I do not know this family, my heart aches and aches for them. I can not imagine loosing a child. Today, was baby Cora's visitation and funeral.

Last night while lying in bed praying for these two families I wondered...what happens to babies in Heaven? Do angles take care of them? How do they get to Heaven? For some reason (probably because of movies), I envision people "walking" to Heaven. But if babies cannot walk, how do they get there? Then I started thinking about the timing of Grandpa and Baby Cora's death and thought, maybe Grandpa was waiting at Heaven's Gates to take Cora the rest of the way. Only Jesus knows the answers, but it did make me smile to think of the two of them going to meet our Savior and to know, they were no longer suffering and as happy as can be.

I'm ready for this week to be over and it's only Tuesday evening. My son has an eye infection so we've been at the Dr. this evening already. We have a busy week the next few days...but THEN it will be the weekend (and a 3 day weekend to boot).

Two blessings to look forward to:

1) My son is visiting his Daddy so I'm going on a Valentine's shopping date with a girlfriend. We don't need a sweetheart for this holiday, we'll take each other and go shopping and have dinner.

2) When my son returns home Sunday, we'll celebrate Valentine's Day again with a heart shaped pizza and a movie. No school or work Monday, so we get to sleep in! :)

I will continue to pray for these two families that have touched my life. One I get to see very often, the other probably never. But you don't need to personally know someone to pray for them. God takes all requests.

Much love and Happy Valentine's Day early!

Think Spring!

Here in the Midwest, we had a Spring day and it was wonderful. Most of the snow has melted with 50+ degree temperatures. Everything is wet, but at least it was warm and the sun was shinning. I washed all of the bedding, cracked open a window and enjoyed the beautiful Spring February. Somehow I have a feeling our winter isn't over, but we can enjoy what comes our way.

After another successful basketball game for my son, I came home to play. I wanted to craft something Spring.... maybe Easter! I rummaged through my containers to see what I could come up with. After a snip of this, a brush of that, a sprinkle of this........a new home was born.

I like my pink, glitter, Easter home filled with green grass, flowers and Easter eggs. I'll tuck it away until closer to Easter Sunday. I can't forget or neglect Valentine's Day. Maybe I should make a love shack? :)

Time to go....must play some more. My home is quite, surreal, music playing, candles burning...oh I just LOVE it!!

Here is someone else that loved the bright sunlight.

I've noticed I've gotten into a routine of just having new posts on weekends. I'm sorry for that. Being a full-time working mother and full-time single mother, our evenings go so quickly, I barely have time for dinner, homework and showers. By the time 8:30 rolls around and it's my son's bedtime, I am mentally and physically dead.

But thank the Lord it's Friday!

My sister likes to surf on Etsy to look for cute ideas to either purchase or make ourselves. One day she sent me an e-mail with a link to Etsy asking "Can we make these?". They were cute little tags with lots of colorful glitter made by this wonderful lady. Ever since then, I keep checking her listings for other sweet things and then one day, she listed these bags filled with eye candy goodies. I couldn't pass it up, so I purchased one.

Look at all of the things inside.....
Some vintage sewing items

A very cute pair of baby booties and socks

Some cute vintage cards, ribbon, lace, scraps of paper and tags

Very cute frilly tissue paper ribbon. I can envision a snowman's collar with this stuff. A little bit of rainbow ribbon and some Scrabble pieces.

Extra sweet picks, clothes pin and an old baby's diaper pin! Isn't the little ballerina cute??
And it all came from Sugar * Sugar. Even her packaging was extra cute.

I'm not sure what I will do with all of it, but over time I can pretty much guarantee it will be used on fun crafts. And for starters, it will start tomorrow! The weekend is here, and I plan on enjoying it. I hope you do too!
