A Lovely Saturday

A Saturday, full of pictures:

Sophie girl...cute as pie

My Dad in my Sister's new swing....he wasn't overly thrilled with it, I loved it.

A pretty geranium in my Sister's window boxes.
Tee-Tee and Simon Peter chilling in the swing...they both loved it too.
An afternoon rain shower, still coming but the sun quickly approaching from behind.
The clouds following the sun.
Rain drops covered everything.

Oh my garden loved the afternoon shower.

Tiger peeking out.
I love sunlight.

Calleigh loves it too.

Tiger just exhausted himself getting up from his nap. He had to go lay back down.
As dusk is drawing near, another storm is rolling in but the clouds are amazing.

Night time soon....and more rain will follow.
Hope you enjoyed seeing my Saturday too.

The Other Birthday Girl

Thursday was my youngest niece's birthday. Tee-Tee turned eleven! It's hard to believe, I remember holding her after she was born, with my own baby in my stomach. I kept her older sister the night before so Mom and Dad could go to the hospital. On our way to the hospital to see her we stooped and got a taco at Taco Bell. Shelby was very excited to meet her, but after a bit, the excitement wore off.

We celebrated Tee-Tee's birthday at my parents, PaPa made his famous fried fish and french fries. Taylor requested that for her birthday dinner. Then we all went to my Sister's house to open presents. She really wanted a new bicycle for her birthday, and she was very happy to see she received one. I snapped this picture through the window, look at that smile!

There were lots of other smiles and laughs during her party. As you can tell from the look on her cousins face. He even looks older today!

She still loves My Littlest Pet Shop things so NaNa and PaPa got her this game for the Wii.

After presents it was time for cake and ice cream. She not only had a little cake, she had a cookie cake. A true favorite between everyone.

Today my Sister is having another party for her with both sides of the family, all Grandparents and Aunts/Uncles are invited. Time for this Nanny - AKA Aunt, to get busy making my treat. Happy Saturday!

The Birthday Girl

Today is my SISTER'S birthday! She is 42 years old...I am the baby of the family just so everyone knows....but she still looks like she is 20. And I do mean that sissy. This year we had to celebrate her birthday a day early because my son was supposed to have a baseball game tonight. However, more rain cancelled the game so in the end we could have celebrated today.

Nonetheless, we celebrated yesterday and we hosted the party at our home. My son is always saying he wants to have a party, so a party we had. It's a very common thing in our family to go all out for birthdays; decorations, yummy food, presents and just good times. So, I set out on the decorations while shopping with my Mom on Saturday. We were at Hobby Lobby and saw the cutest decorations...a Circus! The plates and napkins were so cute, I couldn't pass them up. When I started decorating, one thing led to another and my mind kept thinking of little items to add to it so that it felt more like a real Circus. My son dug out little animals from his closet so we could decorate the table, we bought Circus Peanuts (those orange marshmallow candies), Burnt Peanuts and we popped some popcorn. I was looking for cotton candy, but none of the stores in our town had any in stock. That would have been an excellent addition.

My sister was surprised when she saw the table. I believe she liked it, even if it was more of a kids theme. She wanted hamburgers on the grill, German Potato Salad and ice cream pie. No birthday is complete without cake so I baked some confetti cupcakes with pink icing.

Here are a couple of wacky cousins junked up on too much sugar. Those Circus Peanuts put them in a sugar over-load and they were being a bit weird.

After presents we had ice cream pie and cupcakes (just what the above two Yaa-who's needed). I had little cotton candy picks for the cupcakes and one little candle for my sister.

And every birthday dessert deserves to be served on a silver platter. Happy Birthday Sissy, I love you!!

Gardening

All of those April Showers brought May flowers as promised. However my gardening skills usually consist of annuals, so I had to seek out the flowers for my garden at the local nursery. But nonetheless, I love them just the same.
One thing I started last year and simply loved was to plant herbs in two big planters I have outside my kitchen on my patio. Basil is my most favorite herb, just like my Mom, so I buy many plants so I'm guaranteed a large harvest all summer long. I also enjoy Oregano and Italian Parsley, so those are planted together in another pot.

I fill other containers with flowers I love, or in the case for this year, flowers my Mom bought for me, that I also love. I like to try new greenery as well and not just stick with flowers.

But our most satisfying plant of all is our new vegetable garden. My son and I have been wanting a garden since last summer so my Dad helped make our dream come true. On the other side of our fenced in backyard my Dad tilled a little garden for us and protected it with a mini chicken-wire fence. Hopefully this will prevent all the bunnies that live in my yard from treating our garden like it's a Sunday morning buffet.

Yesterday my Dad and son set off to purchase plants for the garden. My Dad is a big gardener so I told him to buy what he wanted to plant, and we'll take care of the rest. I know we have tomatoes, cabbage, onions, beets, pumpkins (guess who wanted those), squash, zucchini, Sunflowers (my pick) and probably other things, but that's all I can remember right now.

My son took a hoe to the garden already this morning to see if there were any new weeds. I think we were covered since we just dug it up yesterday, but I give him an A+ for effort. I'm very excited about having our own garden and hopeful it will provide an abundant harvest of goodies. I'll keep you posted as the summer progresses.

Time for bed. We have a birthday party at our house tomorrow! Can't wait.

Something Funny

I forgot about these pictures I took of my two fur-balls. Thought I would share the funny with you.
Now that it's finally warm in the Midwest, we have our windows open every day. Calleigh loves to sit in my bedroom under my ceiling fan. But this morning, it was a little chilly so I only had the window cracked. She was longing to get on the windowsill.....poor kitty.

Tiger on the other hand doesn't want to exert too much effort, so he chose to just lay in the sunshine on my bed. And proceeded to stick his tongue out at me while taking his picture.

He is very handsome, looks like a royal tiger.

And our other royal member to the family, Sir Simon Peter, in his handsomeness as well. Dressed up for Mother's Day, looking might fine.

And finally, the big bum was just so tired after a long days work, he rested while I packed for my trip to D.C. It's hard to see, but when he is sprawled out, his body is 1/2 the length of my bed. Not only is he a wide load, he is a long load too. But I love every pound of him.

Home Sweet Home

I'm home from my business trip, but no White House. My meeting was in a suburb of DC and it was too long of a cab drive to get to down town. Not to mention I didn't have one free moment unless I went at 10:00pm, so I decided to pass this trip. So the only thing I was able to see, was the airport. However flying home I did take some neat pictures from high above in the sky.
I think this is the Potomac River.
I thought this patchwork looking field/grass was so neat. Not sure what they were at ground level, but doesn't it look neat?

Coming up to one of the great lakes. I think it was Lake Erie.

This was some island in the middle of one lake. I still can't figure out what it was by looking at some maps.

Downtown, maybe Detroit.

So my trip is over, I'm home and we have a long weekend. School was officially out yesterday in our town. The kids were beyond excited. My son has been bugging me constantly to let him ride his bike to school, so I let him do it yesterday. We have a couple busy roads he must cross so being the paranoid parent that I am, I followed him in my car. They only had class for 10 minutes, long enough to receive report cards, so I waited at the school to follow him home afterwards. And by the way, he did graduate. :) We are moving on to the 5th grade.

And now the summer begins. Even though I still work all summer, I'm trying to plan some fun things for my son to do with the babysitters, but also some weekend trips the two of us can take. I think it would be a good time to go exploring.

Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend, we have a birthday to celebrate....my sissy's. Gotta go shopping for her first. Have a great weekend everyone!

Off to the White House

Well not really, but at least I'll be in the same town to see it. I have a business trip to McLean Virginia, on the other side of DC. I wish there would be some time for fun, but there won't be, all work. I fly out tomorrow and fly home Wednesday morning. I will be in an airport and airplane more than my meetings. I will however ask my cab driver to take me down Pennsylvania Ave so I can see a little bit of Washington DC while I'm in town.

Enjoy your week....see you soon.

The Weekend

It's here! And I'm happy because......

1. I am not working (even though I brought enough work home to put in 40 hours)

2. My sissy is home from her Disney trip (and I missed her terribly)

3. We have another baseball game tomorrow afternoon (weather permitting)

4. It's Mother's Day so I get to celebrate the wonderful Mom I have. And chances are, my little boy will shower me with love too because he really, really enjoys Mother's Day. Am I raising him good or what?!

5. In between everything else, hopefully I can find a little time to work on my Spring album since it is May 8th and I'm still working on April 18th. One of these days, I'll share it with you.

I hope you have a great Mother's Day and if you are a Mom, I congratulate you on a job well done because as we know, it's not easy being a Mom. (or being green if you are a frog) (not sure why I said that, I'm in a weird mood)

Happy Mother's Day!!

Wishing The Week Away

It's been a pretty bad week for me. Not my evening time (family time), but my work time. I find myself constantly wishing the week away and praying for the weekend. It's a terrible rut to be in and I must get myself out of it. Today was a terrible, terrible day at work. I was at my breaking point and almost in tears, and it takes me a long, long time to get there. I can take a lot of "crud" before it pushes me over the edge. Luckily, the final push was around 4:15 so I was able to stay strong until 5:00 and I walked out.

The moment I got in my car, I rolled down my windows, opened the sun roof and asked God to talk to me. I heard on our Christian radio station that today was the National Day of Prayer. I felt ashamed, I was so tied up in my own self pity, I didn't talk to God today and give him my prayers as he deserved.

I turned off the radio and prayed, so hard and fast that I don't remember some towns I drove through. But as I prayed, the stress was lifted. The sky was beautiful, and I know God knows how much I love clouds so he gave me some. To the far West a storm was brewing, but the sky in front of it was beautiful. As usual, He was showing off with His beauty. By the time I was home, the feelings I had 30 minutes earlier were gone.

I picked up my son, headed to our local grocery store to buy some flowers. But the flowers were not for me, I am giving them to three ladies in my department tomorrow. You see in the middle of all our chaos, I had to go to them for extra help above and beyond their job. I asked others, but it was only these three that helped me out. They put in more overtime to get the job done. I just wanted to thank them and give them something to make them smile tomorrow, because tomorrow will not be much better. But besides making them feel happy, it made me feel even better to give. I think I will enjoy their flowers more than they.

Please learn from me, don't forget about giving God his glory today during this Day of Prayer. It's not too late. Plus, His phone line is always open.

Welcome May

It's officially May, and I have no idea where January-April went. Our kids will be out for summer break in three weeks and summer vacation will have started. My goodness.

Mayday is normally a day where my son and I make handmade baskets and deliver them to love ones, however we didn't get to do that this year. Since May 1st was on a Friday, he had to leave to go visit his Dad for the weekend. Even though I did not get to make and deliver any baskets, I did receive one....from my niece and Sister.

It was such a nice surprise. I worked late last night, pulled into my garage, walked to the door and saw this sweet basket hanging on my door. It made my day. My sister is once again teaching me to love and appreciate something, flowers. And even though I don't have anyone to purchase them for me, I should buy them for myself. I think I will start doing that!

But for now, I have this little nosegay to love. I have them stuck on my kitchen table in an old olive oil bottle. Adding a bit of sunshine to this house, with so much icky, dreary rain outside.

I hope you enjoyed your Mayday, and hopefully someone left you a little basket on your door knob.
