Our Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving has come and gone, but it was another fun and extra yummy day. We all met over at Mom and Dad's house where we found Dad busy in the kitchen helping out since Mom was still recovering from surgery. She still helped, she just couldn't stand long in the kitchen. Can't keep a good woman down.

Here are a few snap shots of the animals and table decorations. Simon was sticking his head out of the patio door sniffing whatever he could smell. The one of Sophie is my favorite. This was during lunch and my sister had given her a few licks of mashed potatoes. If you look closely to her bottom lip, you'll see the remains. :) Sophie you are as cute as pie!

While the last few preparations were taking place Taylor and Colin played video games.

Sophie Girl took her nap before lunch.

Shelby and Taylor messing around.

Yummy pumpkin pies my Sissy baked.

Our pretty table.

Dad cookin' in the kitchen.

Mom resting and keeping an eye on the activity going on in the kitchen.

The kids, first in line, filling their plates high. It's a bid sad, I remember the days when I had to help Colin fill his plate as he picked out what he wanted. Now he just takes care of himself. Why do they have to grow up?
After lunch we all rested, some took a cat nap (like me and Dad), watched football, visited, looked at shopping flyer's from the newspaper and just did a little fellowship. A beautiful Thanksgiving for all of us. Hope you had a splendid one too!

More Thanksgiving......

So once in every year we throng
Upon a day apart,
To praise the Lord with feast and song
In thankfulness of heart.
Arthur Guiterman, "The First Thanksgiving"
My Sister and family have successfully moved out of their home. It was a success, only because it is done, it came with much heartache in so many different ways. One Niece woke up in the middle of the night with the vomiting flu, they over slept, packers showed up, and pretty much from there it went downhill fast. However, their house is empty, all humans and animals have temporarily relocated to Mom's house and soon to mine.

I'm thankful this first hurdle of theirs is over. Next, the big move to Michigan. Personally, I can't wait to get them there so I can go visit. And the snow will be flying soon!! But first, we celebrate Thanksgiving as a family while they are still here.

A Little Merry Christmas and a Ho, Ho, Ho Early

I've been on vacation this week from work so I could help Mom through her post surgery. Since she takes a nap in the afternoons, it has given me some free time to play with my goodies from my St. Louis Scrapbook shopping trip.

I saw something at my favorite store, Red Lead, that I wanted to make for my Sister. I guess you could call it a shadow box, or just a whole lot of lovin'. Here is what it looks like now that it is all finished........

I must say, it is darn stinkin' cute and I do love it. I gave it to my sissy tonight because I couldn't wait and she too loved it. Mom enjoyed watching me make it and how it came to life each day. It worked out perfect being at their house because I had to dig through our family photos to find some pictures of us.

The pictures are on three little mittens hanging from a "clothesline". Then the mittens are decorated with all kinds of Christmas goodies.

The individual pictures are blurry, sorry about that, but hopefully you can see all of the details. We've had rain in the Midwest non-stop for 4 days so I didn't have any sunlight to help with the picture taking. This first mitten has a picture of my sister and I on it. I'm the one with the short hair (tom-boy of the family).

Look at how cute my sister was on Christmas morning! She has a very cute pair of jammies on and her hair is done up like a princess. She loved for Mom to play with her hair, I hated it with a passion (hence the short haircut on me).

And here is my Sissy again with her Santa doll. She still has that Santa.

Here is a closer look at the mittens hanging on the clothesline. I used round picture hangers and screwed them into the sides of the wooden box and then looped wire around them to create the line. So....so.....cute. :)

Another cute idea I saw at Red Lead were these individual picture frames. They are simply cardboard houses that I covered with paper, covered the frames with a different pattern of paper and a gold leaf pen was used to outline everything. Then, add every cute embellishment you have on hand! The first is a picture of Mom, Grandma, Shann and I on Christmas morning. I gave this one to my Sister to keep.

Love the gold Elk (sporting a red ribbon).

This one I made for Mom. It has a picture of Mom, Shann and I when I was just a cute, rolly-polly little thing. Isn't Mom's bee-hive hairdo to die for?!?!
It's been so much fun working on all of these projects. I still have two more house picture frames to make. These two will be for me! I'll show you later.

My First Turkey

I learned something new today, how to bake a turkey. Well, it isn't totally finished, so I should probably wait to see how the end product turns out. Tomorrow at our church we are having our annual Thanksgiving lunch. My Dad is in charge of all the Turkeys so many ladies volunteer to bake them, carve them and then take them back to the church. Dad is baking about 6 himself with some friends at our church. I can only imagine what 4 men talk about while baking turkeys.

Mom had hip replacement surgery so I'm at her house taking care of her and thought it would be a perfect time for me to learn how to bake a turkey. She was there to help, it would make her house smell wonderful, and that way she could keep some turkey since she will miss the dinner. She sat in a chair and talked me through getting "the birds" ready. It was easy after all, they were just a bit intimidating.

Dad gave me 2 turkeys to bake, both are roasting away in the oven as we speak. It smells wonderful, sure hope they taste good. Next, Mom will walk me through making her famous dressing. I've made other dressings in my time, but I love hers that is just so simple.

I've watched on Food Network, watched my sister and read all kinds of recipe's where you can stuff goodies inside the bird. I wanted to follow Mom's rules, butter and lots of seasonings (like that cute can of Old Bay Seasoning). Never seen nor heard of that, but it smells good.
Colin came over to Nana's too and called a buddy of his to come play. I was in Mom's bedroom helping her get ready and we looked out the window to see them both in her tree. Colin is a MAJOR tree climber. I just look the other way and pray he doesn't fall out. Total boy. Don't worry about that gun he is holding, it is a toy. What is it with men and guns??? I still haven't figured that one out.

His buddy Joshia.

Just checked on the birds, they are done. Oh it sure smells like Thanksgiving in Mom and Dad's house. It's just around the corner, can't wait.
Here are a few pictures of Tiger Kitty. I was attempting to make my bed the other morning and he was pretty fired up for some reason and wanted to play. Can you see it in his eyes?

This is his more common position.....fat and lazy.

Happy Saturday!

Broke but in Heaven with all my GOODS

My girlfriend and I had a WONDERFUL time in St. Louis this weekend. I'm beyond broke, but it was sooooooo worth it. I didn't take many pictures, only a couple and I haven't even down loaded them. Ever since I've been home I've been reorganizing my craft room to find a new home for all of the goodies.

Wednesday is a federal holiday so I'm lucky enough to have another day off coming up. My same crafty girlfriend and I are going to scrap that day and put our December Daily Albums together so they are ready for the 1st of December. I think I have enough product to make 30 albums....oh well.....life is good.

Since the creative juices are officially flowing I scanned the Internet looking for a free photo editing software. Being a newbie to editing software, I wasn't ready to spend the money to buy something, but luckily I found PhotoScape. You can download it for free and so far, it has been so much fun to play with. I can't wait to use this for my December Album.

Here are some pictures I've played with so far:

I really love how you can add text on top of your photos.

Need to keep playing to perfect the colors of the photos, but it sure is fun to play with. I'm so excited about Thanksgiving coming and then Christmas. I don't want to wish the days away, but I do wish it would hurry up and get here! :)

St. Louis Here We Come!

Tomorrow morning after I drop off Colin at school, I'm heading to St. Louis with my girlfriend. I can hardly wait and I know she is just as excited. We are off on a scrapbook shopping trip.

There is someone however that is not as excited.......Calleigh. When I started packing she planted herself in my bag so I had to stop.

Sorry girl, I'm going!

While I was inside getting things ready, Colin took it upon himself to rake our yard. I knew a cute picture could come of it.

Talk to ya'll in a couple days!

December Daily Album and a WHOLE lot of places to shop!

I'm so excited, the holidays are quickly approaching which means a time to get my creative juices flowing. Last February I discovered Ali Edwards in "blog-land" and quickly fell in love with her idea of a December Daily Album. I didn't want to wait until December so if you remember, I did a Daily Album in April. It was fun, but I've so been looking forward to December to document one of the most exciting months of the entire year.

Ali has started on her album and is documenting her steps so it has really gotten me motivated. But you want to know the BEST part?!?!?! My girlfriend and I are heading to St. Louis this weekend on a Scrapbook Shopping retreat! We did this last March and had a blast! This time however, everything will be glowing with Christmas items so I can hardly wait.

While I'm heading South with my girlfriend, my Sissy is heading East to Indy with her girlfriend. Dawn and I will be shopping for ourselves. My sister and Lori will be shopping (Christmas) for others. :) I'll be sure I don't blow my Christmas Club Account Money on me, but wouldn't that be ho...ho....nice?
