Party all Weekend Long

It was definitely a party kind of weekend at our place this weekend. We had two birthday's to celebrate and one 8th grade graduation to commence. The parties started out Saturday afternoon at my home for the Birthday Club Gathering to celebrate my Sissy's birthday.

Yummy peanut butter/chocolate cupcakes.

This was going to be the first time my Sister and family would be meeting Romeo and Colin was so excited waiting for them. I caught them sitting by the front door when Colin knew they were getting very close.

Romeo attend the girls only party and he was a very good gentleman (except for the butt sniffing he constantly did. But hey, he was with all girls). Here he is trying to lay in my lap.

Calleigh came out of hiding to attend the party as well.

Shann with her cuppy-cake.
After our girls party was over we all went to Mom and Dad's for Taylor's Birthday party. She ordered a fish fry so Papa came through. We sat in the garage with him to watch him do all the cooking while Taylor opened her presents.

Tee-tee really wanted a funky pair of sunglasses so Colin helped me pick a pair out. It think we did well, don't you?

Shann opened some presents too for her birthday. She got lots of sewing things and items for her garden.

Even Shelby got some presents for her 8th grade graduation. A cool new purse from Nana and Papa (with money inside).

After good food and presents it was time for dessert. It was hard but we crammed 12 candles on Taylor's cupcake.

Sunday afternoon we all decided to take Romeo to meet Grandma in the Nursing Home. Grandma LOVES animals so we knew she would like to meet Romeo, and she did. She was in bed taking a nap but we woke her up. After everyone said their hellos she finally noticed Romeo standing by her bed. She smiled so big.

He gave her lots of kisses on her hand.

Then he quietly laid his head down on her bed.

And when he was tired, he laid down on the floor so we could all visit. He is such a good puppy-dog......I do love him.

On our final day before our long weekend is over it will be time to say good-bye once again to my sister and family as they head home to Michigan. Colin and I are taking Romeo to PetSmart for a bath and some new toys. While he is getting cleaned up, we will shop for a bit and then our family will come home to rest for the remainder of our holiday.
I hope you enjoyed your long weekend. What types of parties did you have?

Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day to everyone! Many times I look forward to this weekend because it's a 3 day holiday, it marks the beginning of summer and we have my Sister and Niece's Birthday to celebrate. Too many times I forget the real meaning of this holiday and that is to be thankful and honor the Men and Women that have served for our country.

I thank all of you from the past, present and future yet to come that have protected me and my land. I thank you for giving up your family so I can feel safe with mine. I thank you for keeping me safe while you risk your own life, any many times lose your life. I thank you and in return I promise to pray for your continual safety. I will never forget nor take for granted this wonderful country we have because of you.

May God bless and protect you with his most gracious and comforting arms.

Busy, Working Weekend

I knew I had a lot of things to get done during the 3 day weekend, but it ended up being more than planned. But the good part, it all got done and then some.

We started our Friday night with a baseball game (lost again). Saturday morning started all the chores. The linens got washed, Colin cleaned the car inside and out, I planted all my flowers and herbs finally and we had a friend over for dinner.

Everytime I wash my sheets Tiger gets pretty excited when it's time to put them back on the bed. He sees it as a time to hide under the sheets. Romeo thought that was his chance to sniff some cat fur since Tiger didn't see his nose peeking under the sheets always.

Can you see Colin climbing in on one side and Romeo peeking in on the other? Tiger is probably saying "Holy Cow!".

After we worked hard Saturday we had a little rest Sunday. After church Colin had another baseball game however now the temperature in the Midwest is 92 degrees. Way too hot for a baseball game, but the boys played anyway. We lost again, but Colin got some great hits.

Romeo came to the game and we sat in the shade the whole time, except for when I wanted some pictures and he watched as well. I'm pretty certain he could hear Colin's voice.

Sunday night Dad came over and after mowing, we finished planting the garden. So far she looks really good. I'm very excited about it and hope it doesn't get flooded out like last year.

I took a vacation day Monday from work and cleaned my whole house, top to bottom. It felt so good to have it spic-and-span. May only last until today, but at least it was clean. After Colin got home from school look whole chilled with him. And look who appears to be jealous that must sit on the floor?

Last night we played in the yard for a bit before bedtime. There was a small storm forming but the rays of light in front of the clouds were beautiful. I just love clouds.

Romeo was taking it all in too.

Looking forward to another 3 day weekend coming up. This one will be even better because my Sissy is coming home and we are celebrating her birthday and my nieces birthday. Lot's of parties going on!

Sleep Over

One of Colin's buddies has been with us for the last two days because his parent's had a family emergency. We made a bed for him on Colin's bedroom floor and ole' Romeo wanted to share Joshia's bed.

Tiger had his perch too, away from the dog. It was an easy escape to Colin's loft bed if he needed to run fast.

Colin looking down from his bed.

This morning I made homemade waffles for the boys. I haven't made them in a long time and they were very yummy. Joshia ate three! I got my recipe from a Food Network magazine but I'm sure they have it on their website.

It's gonna be a busy weekend at home. We do have a game tomorrow but I have tons of work needing done at home. Remember my last post? Well it's time to bust a grove and work. Hope you enjoy your weekend!

Dog + Baseball = No Time

Because of the two "major" things going on in my life right now.....Romeo and Baseball........I'm feeling overwhelmed. Mom before you tell me "I told you so about the dog", I'll be fine. I would be overwhelmed without Romeo.

I was getting down on my drive to work today and just as I was driving under a bridge in another town it hit me. It was as if God said "You-who....wake up and stop this pitty party".
*****I realized how grateful I am to have dirty floors to clean because of Romeo that was brought into our lives.
*****I realized how grateful I am to have a son that may cause extra work, but I wouldn't give it up for anything in this world.
*****I realized how grateful I am to have a son that loves sports and he is mine, all mine.
*****I realized how grateful I am to have a dirty house to clean, and dirty clothes to wash that we can wear, and dirty dishes that mean we have food to eat.

*****I thanked God right then for my dirty floors, dirty house, laundry, baseball games and all the fur balls a person would ever need (to create another cat that is).

So I put on my big girl panties and went to work with a smile on my face knowing every bit of that work would get done. And if it didn't all happen tonight, or tomorrow night, it would still get done. So instead of scrubbing my floors, I'm adding this post. Because why kill myself, right? HA!
I have been productive tonight as the rain continues to come down. My puppy dog enjoyed laying in the kitchen while I did all the previous dishes, supper dishes and more dishes. He looked out the screen door and chewed on his rawhide.

He is still being a good boy with the kitties. Everyone is more at ease around the house, but every now and then he gets a wild hair and can't contain himself and will start to run towards them. Here he is looking at me because he sees Tiger laying on my bed and thinking "Can I please go after him?".

Wouldn't you be dying to get this? I mean come-on, he gets to lay on my bed! Notice how it isn't made? Yeah, that needs done too.

And the other sleeping beauty. I really wish I was a cat these days. (Aren't my sheets cute?)

Well I better get back to the laundry room. Just about another hour and another evening has slipped away. Even though I'm sick of this rain in the Midwest, I am hoping for just one more day of it so our baseball game will get rained out tomorrow night. Shhh....don't tell the coach.

First Full Week with Romeo

We all survived our first week as a family with Romeo in it. Romeo and the kitties are getting along much, much better. They can all be together in one room without any barking, jumping or running. That is a blessing, believe me.

Here are some pictures of Colin Friday night with his groovy glasses on.

Romeo trying to look out the bay window.

Is he tall like a human being or what? He is as tall as Colin and I can basically dance with him if he stands up. Crazy I tell ya.

Later in the evening Colin had a baseball game so I took Romeo with us. Mom went too so we sat in the van with her for a little bit so Romeo could rest. He is definitely a kid magnet. Luckily he loves people and was a very good boy around everyone. I had lots of boys say "Cool dog". Made me smile. :)

My International Friends

Today my two friends from China graduated from the University of Illinois. Both of them received a Master in Finance. The U of I has the #1 Finance College in the world, I suppose that is why they came to our country to receive their education.

I was introduced to Vincent and Angela through the International Student Ministries at the U of I. Both of them are wonderful individuals and are loving life in the States. I am so proud of them for coming here, broken English, left their parents and all of this to pursue a better education. I know I would never have the courage to do those things, and they did it with flying colors.

I attend their ceremony however it was impossible to find them in this mess of students. They all looked the same from where I was sitting. Their parents flew here from China to watch their children graduate. I was able to visit with Angela's Father because he spoke English but her Mom and Vincent's parents did not speak any English. They didn't need to speak in order to see the love and feelings of pride coming over them.

After the ceremony we all met outside for pictures. Here is Angela's Mom giving her a big hug.

This is Angela and Vincent. This is their American names. Angela's Dad asked me what Vincent's American name was because he did not know. They are friends from China and along with a few other classmates, they all came to the U of I together to receive their Masters.

Here is Angela with her Mom and Dad. Such a sweet family. She is an only child since you are only allowed one child in China due to the population issues.

Here is Vincent with his Mom and Dad. Another sweet family.

It was a fun day watching them live out their dream of graduation. It's been 16 years ago, but I remember the feeling like it was yesterday. I loved watching all of the students excited about graduation day and wondering what lies ahead for all of them. Vincent and Angela may stay in the States if they are able to find a job. I couldn't imagine being that far away from my parents, but I guess you must set your child free.
I know the three of us will keep in touch. I believe God brought them into my life for a reason. They have been a blessing to me, and to know they are from the other side of the world is truly amazing. Funny how He works like that. :)
