A Season of Giving

Each Christmas season my mind starts thinking of ways I can help others in need. It may be to buy some presents from the Salvation Army Tree, bake some cookies for a dear neighbor, reach out to an organization in need, make shoe boxes for Samaritan's purse.......I mean the needs are endless.

I just read about something very exciting on another woman's blog. Something as worthless to us Americans, may save the life of a person in Haiti. Please read this and maybe it's something you would like to do.

Our local Christian radio station, 91.7 WBGL, offers a wonderful way to help families in our community each Christmas. Families can be nominated that have a need and it could be anything from presents for their children, to car repairs, to an actual car, to groceries or assistance paying for their medication. When you read the stories about the families your heart hurts for all of them. Their needs are so little while mine seem entirely too frivolous. They need food to feed their family and I have body lotion on my list. Oh dear, what is wrong with this story?

It brought me to this scripture. I hope you read it and feel God speaking to you and asking "My dear child, where would you like to give?". I just found my family.

"Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

2 Corinthians 9:7

It's Official.................

Tiger hates us. But I have no idea why?

The beginning of Peppermint Season

Have I ever told you how much I love peppermint? I don't really care for those little round candies or peppermint candy canes, I love all other things flavored with peppermint instead. And my favorite.....anything peppermint in my coffee!

Colin and I went shopping this weekend and I saw this coffee mug at the Hallmark store and I fell in love with it. I wouldn't normally ever buy a coffee mug, I have plenty for only a 1 person coffee drinkin house, but I could not pass him up. Plus, he was $10.00 and I had a $5.00 off coupon! :) Merry Christmas to me.

My morning coffee tasted even better today with my new mug and Peppermint Mocha creamer. Oh be still my heart.

Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Our family gathering was very large this year and I loved having all of the extra family members with us. My brother-in-law's family came to our dinner along with a very close family friend so we had 13 people (and 2 dogs). Lot's of loved ones filled my Mom and Dad's home.

It was our first Thanksgiving with Romeo. He loved it. Not only did he love all the attention, he loved the FOOD! Dad tried to run him out of the kitchen, but he refused to leave. Papa finally gave up.

I have so many blessings in my life, here are just a few. There is nothing more important than family and mine is the best. I love all of you...even those that have fur.

I hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving. I know I will, because I'm spending it with my family.

Lots of Love!

It's Been a Lazy Weekend

Colin and I have been hanging out around home all weekend. I labeled this a lazy weekend, but I did do a bunch of housework early Saturday morning, so I haven't been a total slug.

Both of us have a cold so we haven't felt like doing much. Colin's cold is in the beginning stages so he feel extra crummy. Mine, it's on the way out (which is why I had energy to clean my home). Saturday I rented us 3 movies to watch because Colin didn't feel like getting off the couch. While he watched the first movie I worked on my December Daily Album. I drug all my goodies to the family room so I could sit with him.

Saturday the mailman delivered a package to me that I just had to share with you. I found this lady on Ali Edwards' blog and fell in love with the goodies she makes. Her Etsy store is called Banana Fish Studio's and it is lovely.

She recreated vintage milk caps for Christmas. Super cute!

Little journaling cards. I love her packaging too. It's those little details that reel you back for more. :)

Crafy Endeavors....uh huh....that's me.

"C" is for Colin too.....and Cat.

Tiny little flash cards. I love flash cards (except for when I was in the 3rd grade).

While I worked on my album and Colin watched TV, two of the fur-balls took an afternoon nap. It was a perfect day for a nap.

This morning Colin slept in so Romeo and I had to be extra quite for about 3 hours. He was very happy to see Colin when he did finally drag his lazy bottom out of bed.

Tiger, he just sat around looking handsome. I think it would be a good day to bake some cookies. No it would be a REALLY good day to put the Christmas tree up, but that must wait until after Thanksgiving. Only 4 more days!

And so it begins.........Basketball that is

Tryouts were Wednesday night, he made the team (along with everyone else that tried out), had practice on Thursday night, had practice tonight. And so chaos begins for the life as a basketball player (and his Mama).

Crafty Michigan Weekend

Colin and I went to see my Sister this weekend in Michigan and as always, we had lots of fun. My oldest niece, Shelby had a High School dance to attend Saturday night so we stuck around home all weekend so the kids could play, and the adults played too. With crafts!

Shann planned this craft that was so stinkin cute, we couldn't stop laughing while we were putting it together. The little snow people are made from the fingers of white mittens. Each snowman represents someone from our family.

Our Family: Me, Colin, Romeo, Tiger and Calleigh.

Shann's Family: Mark, Shann, Shelby and Taylor
Aren't they adorable?!?!?!
Romeo enjoyed his visit with Aunt Shann too. By Saturday afternoon he tried to catch a few winks while we were sitting down looking at magazines. Otherwise, he was following us everywhere. I bought him a new toy before we left and gave it to him once we got to Shann's. He loves his stuffed animals........as you can see.

Saturday evening it was time for Shelby's dance. She was absolutely beautiful and I think her date thought so too. He was very handsome as well. He sure smiled when he looked at Shelby. (look who snuck in this picture, sitting on the arm chair)
Shelby's date bought her a corsage and he even put it on her. She just blushed. :)

Look at him looking at her while slipping the flower on her wrist. How sweet!

One of Shelby's girlfriends stopped by for pictures too. They are two beautiful girls!

After Shelby left we put our jammies on and did some more crafts. I brought a bunch of scrapbook paper and we made homemade Christmas tags. We stayed up late until it was time for Shelby to come home. She had a great time at the dance.

Sunday morning we made our final craft, another one Shann found. She took red and white pipe cleaners and soaked them in tea so they were a bit antiqued. Then she dried them in the dryer, we cut them in half and took a white and red pipe cleaner and wrapped them around one another. Once wrapped you put the little curve to make the shape of a candy cane and we added some glitter to sparkle them up. Super cute!

By Sunday Romeo was really enjoying his new stuffed animal, so much he tore a hole in its bottom and before long, we found stuffing everywhere and he even pulled out the squeaker. I grabbed it, stuck it back inside and asked Aunt Shann if she could sew up his hole. She said she would give it a try on her sewing machine so hopefully it would have a tighter stitch. As we all know, I wouldn't be able to do that after my last experience with Bernice.

She took the bear and Romeo would not leave her side. He wanted his bear back, he didn't care about the hole. They do say, Aussies protect their flock.

"Oh Aunt Shann, hurry up and give me the bear! It's killing me!"

"Oh thank you, thank you".

We had such a fun time. We are ready to go back. Romeo too.

She drove me to drink

Remember my birthday present? Well I decided she had sat in her box long enough and it was time to come out. Friday night while Colin was with his Dad, I mustered up enough courage to try and sew with the bad boy (girl). When I got her out of her box I noticed the needle was no longer threaded. However I noticed there were two pieces of thread, one from the bobbin on top and one from the bobbin underneath. I never knew there was a bobbin underneath.

I had no idea what to do. I tried calling my Sister and she didn't answer.....rats! I found the manual and decided to follow the instructions. I figured out I should leave the thread from the bobbin underneath alone. OK, I can do this. I finally got her threaded (at the age of 40, I really need glasses now to deal with this machine and that itty bitty eye on that needle). I grabbed a piece of paper, hit the start button and everything fell apart. She sucked all the thread in and crammed it down under that hole thingy and all this extra thread started coming off and I got so flustered I couldn't even remember how to shut the thing off. While trying to dig the thread out I poked myself with the needle and started bleeding. This meant war.

So I did what every woman would do, I went to the frig and poured myself a glass of wine.

OK, things are better now. About 5 tries later and a ton of wasted thread, I SEWED! It wasn't pretty, but I sewed. My path was not straight, but I'll always remember that little project. I made something for my December Daily Album so it will forever be in a scrapbook for me to see. There may even be some blood stain, but it is not war if blood is not shed. And in the end, I won.
Tiger and Romeo stayed with me through the battle. Both were bored out of their minds, but they didn't leave my side, even with the yelling.

I named my little machine with the help of my Sissy. I cannot repeat the names I originally was calling her because this is a family blog, but after sharing the story (and some laughs) with my Sister she came up with a proper name..........Bernice. So, Bernice it shall be and if that chick ever makes me bleed again, she will be in time-out in the garage.

Etsy Shop is full of Christmas Cheer

My Etsy shop is full again with Christmas items. This will be it for the year. I'm ready to make my own crafts, just for me and not for sale. In fact, I started today on my next December Daily Album. Ali Edward's makes them each year and last year I made one for the first time and loved it. I'm starting on the foundation for this year's album.

Check out my shop for you, a friend, you, a sister, you, a teacher, you, or maybe you!
