Happy Birthday To Me!!

Today is my birthday!  It's 8:00am, drinking peppermint coffee in my jammies, in MI, with my Sissy and both of us have laptops on our laps reading blogs.  What better way to spend your birthday?  The house is calm, everyone else is still in bed.  There is a thick layer of frost outside but at least MI didn't get that snow.  :)

My birthday weekend will be over today so we must head home later but it's been lots of fun being here with the whole family.  We have laughed so hard I cried.  We have shopped, cooked and ate to our hearts content.  Oh how I don't want to go home.  But, all good times must come to an end so that new ones can be created again.

Yummy Puff Caramel Corn

Colin discovered this recipe at a family event and has been asking for it ever since.  We love Caramel Corn in our family, however it must be homemade.  My Mom has spoiled us that way.  She makes things homemade and then you can never eat the store bought stuff.  But it's soooo worth it.

Since I've been home this week and able to pick Colin up from school, we try to do something fun after school.  Today we get to drive to MI to see my Sissy!  That will be fun (well not the drive but the destination will be).  Yesterday we made the Puff Corn so we can take it with us.  This would be a yummy Halloween Treat!

Ingredients:

1 (8 ounce) bag puff corn
1 cup butter (do not substitute)
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon baking soda

Directions:

1. Place puff corn in a large roaster pan.
2. In 2 quart sauce pan bring the butter, sugar & corn syrup to bring to boil, then cook for 2 minutes.
3. Add the baking soda- this will cause the caramel mixture to foam up.
4. Stir well and remove from heat.
5. Pour over puff corn in roaster and bake in 250* oven for 45 minutes, stirring every 10-15 minutes.
6. Remove from oven, spread out onto wax paper to cool.

Restful Times Ahead

Last night at 5:45pm, I started vacation for a week.  As always, it felt good to walk out of work and know I wouldn't be back for 5 working days + a weekend.  I have 2 1/2 days home alone because Colin is in school so I was hoping to do stuff for me....me,me,me!  I have a small to-do list, many items are still fun things so I will try my best to not get caught up in the chores of home.  Maybe I can actually do some blog posts too!

Mixed in with my vacation is another trip to see my Sissy and family.  But this time Mom and Dad are coming with us and I can't wait to have our whole family together again.  We don't get to do this a whole lot.  But besides a visit to Michigan, it is also my birthday this weekend.  I am more looking forward to time with family than my birthday.

We are in the thick of Basketball again.  Since Colin is in the 7th grade he is officially part of the sports system in his school.  It's a bit more "official".  He had to try out for the team and luckily he made it.  :)  But since we only have 1 gym and lots of other sports, his practices are at 6:00am every morning.  That means this mama is up at 5:00am, Colin is up at 5:20 and he is at school at 5:45!  I know, stupid as can be.  I'm very proud of him because he is doing good.  Some mornings he is a bit grouchy, but he knows that means more sleep so he goes to bed even earlier than he has been.  But the really depressing part, 6:00am practices go through all of November (ugh!!).  If he doesn't have a game that evening, he has practice.....every....single....day.....in.....November.  So looking back when I complained in previous years of basketball, that was nothing!  But, my little buddy loves basketball so this Mama will give up her sleep.  As my Dad says, "Why do I need sleep?  One of these days I'll be able to sleep all I want when I'm dead".  :)  A man of wisdom.

A Little Bit of Fall Fun

Last Sunday Colin was determined to get Romeo in the front yard with him.  However, Romeo does not stay in the front yard if he is not hooked up.  He would rather preview the neighborhood running 100 miles an hour so Colin knew he had to be on a leash.  I heard him tinkering in the garage for about 15 minutes and next thing I heard "Romeo!  Come-on, let's go outside".  Being the cautious parent, I went too.

Colin created a long leash and hooked it to the porch railing. He made sure it wasn't too long and wouldn't get near the street (always on his toes I tell ya).  I sat on the step and watched while they played.  Colin brought a bunch of Romeo's toys outside and I must say Romeo loved it.

These two were quite jealous.

Colin raked a bunch of leaves and hoped that Romeo would want to play in them.  Not so much.  By now Romeo was panting and tired and just wanted to lay down and watch the world go by.  So Colin started playing in the leaves by himself.

But each time Colin laid down, Romeo went over and checked on him just to make sure he was still ok.  Colin grabbed him just long enough so I could snap a quick picture.

OK, so maybe this playing in the leaves isn't half bad.  I think I will run through them after all.

Hey guys......I want to run through the leaves too!

Halloween is coming

It appears as though Halloween is coming if you look around our home.  Nothing spooky, only happy pumpkins.

I love Halloween!

MI Trip Again......Can you believe it??

We now resume to our regularly scheduled blogging.....

As I mentioned in my last post we went to see my Sissy last weekend in MI.  We always have so much fun visiting them and this time was no exception.  We didn't do anything but just hang out, craft and play on our computers/iPods.  Since my Sissy and I are both addicted to Pinterest, we spent time looking at it and our favorite blogs.

We of course brought Romeo with us, he loves to visit his Aunt Shann's.  She seems to feed him lots of little meals where his mean ole' Mama only gives him 1 meal a day (per his vet recommendations mind you). So he loves to see her.  I snapped this picture while laying on floor holding a treat for him over me.  Think he's deprived of food??

Shann has a new family member.....or I should say my nieces do.  Her name is Zoe but Shann calles her Princess-Poops-a-lot......because she does relieve her self an awful lot.  She can also go to town in her wheel.  She spins that thing so fast you can hear her downstairs while she is in her cage upstairs.  She likes to do her Jane Fonda.

And Simon likes to watch her do her Jane Fonda....while licking his lips.

But Princess-Poops-a-lot can REALLY go to town in her little ball.  Too bad she can't pedal into that teenager room in the back ground and make that bed.  Maybe her Aunt can teach her that next time we visit.

Colin thought she worked well as a new mouse for his computer.  :)

Say cheese!

And she's off!

So after our fun time was over on Sunday we headed home.  We stopped at our normal PaPa Cider Mill for homemade cider and apple donuts and then stopped in St. Joe, MI (my favorite little town....or my 2nd favorite).  As soon as we got off the interstate we rolled the windows down for dog-dog.

This time we drove through an ADORABLE subdivision next to the water.  Of course the homes will forever be way out of my budget but it's nice to dream.  The homes remind me so much of Florida homes, bright colors, picket fences, adorable setting.  Hope the people didn't see us taking pictures and think we were weird-o's.

This one looks over the water even though you can't see it.  I bet the homes are high up on a bluff.  I wish I had a bluff.

This was my favorite one.

So that's another visit in MI.  I really think I should be a spokeswoman for that state.  Hope you are having a fantastic weekend so far!!

Sniffles

I just haven't been in the blogging mood these days.  I miss it, I want to, but too much going on and frankly none of it is fun to write about.  Then to top things off, Colin and I are both sick. At least we can be sickly together.  While visiting my Sissy this past weekend (hopefully more pics to come on that), I picked up a new brand of Kleenex. They aren't paying me for this so don't worry.  :)  They have some new "Cool Touch" Kleenex.  And you know what, they work!  When you take one out of the box it is really cool to the touch.  So nice to your sore nose.  You gotta check them out next time you have the Sniffles.  Oh yes, I'm also very partial to the Vic's Kleenex too.

Hope to be back soon!
