Well, I knew this day would come. Whether I wanted it or not. My boy has officially become a hunter and wants to kill animals. I believe with all my heart God made men this way. Heaven knows he didn't get this trait from me! Oh no, I would rather not think about hunting. But even though he has practically been raised by a female the inner hunter has come out. And we have been very blessed to have the best worship minster at our church that is an avid hunter. He has taken Colin under his wing (duck, goose, dove....wing) and is teaching him everything he needs to know about hunting.
So I guess today is the first day of Dove season so after church Colin and Adam set off to find something to kill. I guess the time has also come for me to purchase camo for my boy. We didn't have any so he had to settle for this other brown shirt. :) While loading up Adam said they would bring home lots of doves for his wife and I to clean. I said unless they come in those big frozen bags like chicken legs to, don't bother. I am not a Miss Kay like Duck Dynasty. No blood and feathers for this Mama. But now feathers stuffed to make a pretty pillow, I'll do that.

Summer is quickly fading away. I want to capture as much of the warm summer days as possible. The last few days it has gotten almost chilly in Illinois. A reminder that fall isn't too far away.
Colin and I like to get in the car after dinner some evenings and drive. No destination in mind, just away. We ended up far in the country a few nights ago and was able to witness a beautiful sunset.
Mr. Tiger in all his glory.
Canning pickles with my Dad. This was a first for me and I cannot wait to try what we created. Dad did the majority of the work because I arrived late to his house, so we'll give him the credit.
My little strawberry patch in a container is producing fruit. Very slow going, but enough to grab a strawberry each time you are in the yard playing.
The outline of Ms. Calleigh. She is my sleeping buddy. She sits and stares at me until I pet her. It's a every evening ritual in my bedroom. I try to tell her it isn't polite to stare but she doesn't care. She just wants so lovin.

We have a new member to our family.....Pebbles. My Sister adopted a sweet little girl from her local Humane Society. Her owner passed away and her children could not keep her so they had to place her up for adoption. I don't believe there is anything better in this world than rescuing an animal. Pebbles doesn't know this yet but she is going to have the best life a dog-dog could ever want.
Here she is on her way home with Shelby. Isn't it great to go for a ride in the car and out of those cages Pebbles??
When Colin and I got home Thursday night we had to Skype to meet our new family member.
Shann and I have the same Mary Engelbreit flip calendar. On Friday, Pebbles first full day being adopted, this was the quote for the day. It's a sign, Pebbles was meant to be. :)
Friday morning I received this text picture from my Sissy. Pebbles was sitting with her during the morning coffee rituals looking out the window watching the world go by. Look how sweet she is!
We love you already Pebbles. Romeo too (I hope!). Can't wait to meet you!!

I guess I'm on a one post every few months now. Just choosing what is more important to me these days and trying to not let computer time take it over. My boy is heading into High School so it's a constant slap in the face my time is limited with him.
Since time is limited a vacation is very important to me. He still loves to be with me so I will take it every chance I get. This Spring while discussing vacation ideas he continued to say he wanted to see the Mountains. Yes we could have gone to Colorado but I didn't want to pay for plane tickets or drive that far so we settled for the Smokey Mountains. I am happy we did because I forgot how beautiful they are.
Even though there is plenty to do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg we stayed in the National Park as much as possible. I would rather hang out with the 1,500 bears than the 1 million tourists. But let me expand on that bear piece....I would rather be in my CAR hanging out with the bears not up close and personal. Oh we saw bears too!
Colin tried his hand at fishing, looking for trout but didn't have much luck. He didn't care, he just loved being in the water and I loved taking pictures of him (and I was in charge of watching for bears).
We hiked a few trails but this one was my favorite. Trail was 1 1/2 miles, uphill (insert I about died), but the payoff was this beautiful waterfall. I loved to hear the rushing water.
Me and my kiddo!
During one of our car drives we spotted two bear cubs. It was hard to get their picture because the trees were so lush, but can you see him in there hanging on the tree? I'm sure Mama Bear was close by too so we stayed in the car!
While heading on our final hike one evening we came to this sign as we approached the trail. You have no idea how much I wanted to turn around and run for my car. On our whole drive up to the mountain top Colin and I kept praying out loud to the Lord saying "Lord, can you please show us 1 bear? Only one, just let him be along side the road." When I started on this trail my prayer changed "Lord, this is NOT the time to show us that bear. PLEASE keep them far away because I would not be tasty meat. OK?!?!"
After the hike and being spared our lives, we started the very long drive back down the mountain side. The sun was setting so we pulled off a few times for some beautiful pictures. You sure do not get views like this in Illinois.
Love this silhouette picture of Colin I snagged.
And one funny picture to end the day. Colin with a cute birdie eating his sunglasses.
Happy almost weekend!!!

Just like everyone else in the Midwest, we too got a few inches of snow the other day. Enough for them to cancel school on Friday. Colin was thrilled....oh how I remember those days of hearing your Mom/Dad tell you school was cancelled. He still woke up and got dressed so I made him go outside so I could take his picture.
This weekend warmer weather came so our snow is already melting away. Fine with me, I'm ready for Spring and flowers and green grass. :) Romeo loved the sunshine. I looked out my bedroom window to find him watching the cares of the world go by down our street.
And back inside with a tad too much energy he runs wild from one end of the house to the other. But there was one 14 yr old boy that got him wound up. This is what happens when you have a snow day....on a Friday....that results in a long weekend.
Back to school tomorrow!

My niece was in her schools musical Beauty and the Beast and it was simply amazing!! She was the sugar bowl and was the cutest thing I have ever seen. She did such an amazing job and made this Aunt so very proud of her!
Here she is in the middle (next to the cheese grater).
And here behind the creamer.
And when the performance was over we could take pictures with her and the other cast members. Cousin Colin was proud of her too!
Shelby and Belle
Lumiere and Shelby
I took many more pictures, it was so spectacular!! And I love my sugar bowl!!
